2 Types of Umrah

Umrah is an Arabic term which means to visit a populated place (Makah). A minor pilgrimage that has its own importance and significance as it is the act that cleanses one’s heart and soul from the sins committed in past. Like Hajj, Umrah is amongst the best deeds that wash away the sins. Pilgrims who perform Umrah with true and pure intention get great rewards in life and hereafter. One of the magnificent virtue of Umrah is that if any one passes away during the journey of Umrah, then the reward for them is Jannah (heaven). It is one of the way of pleasing Allah (SWT) and ask for forgiveness for the previously committed sins.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

Umrah is the atonement of all sins

Umrah often times is not supposed to be done at any particular period so it can be performed in 2 different ways which are later discussed. These pilgrimages in Islam are the demonstrations of strong and firm faith in Allah (SWT).

2 types of Umrah

1.    Umrah-ul-Mafradha:

This type of Umrah can be done at any time of the year there is no particular time of offering Umrah-ul-Mafradha as it is independent of hajj. Umrah-ul-Mafradha can be observed individually it is not bound to be done with the fellow pilgrims.

2.    Umrah-ul-Tammatu:

There is a specific time of performing Umrah-ul-Tammatu since it is connected with Hajj which is strictly done in the 12th which is the last month of Islamic calendar. Umrah-ul-Tammatu is dependent on hajj and is necessary to offer this with fellow pilgrims.
